November 2019–Armor Bearer
“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.” ~Matthew 1:21
We want to wish you Merry Christmas and a Happy, Christ-Filled New Year! Thank you for being among our greatest gifts and for your faithful support and prayers. You are a lifeline holding our ropes in the mission field.
August began with our 55th annual Family Week and Candidate School at Camp Joy, WI. It was a joy to have missionaries from around the world seek the Lord’s favor and will for our ministries. We go to encourage and receive much more than we ever give. The Lord is using AFBM for His glory, and we pray that will always be the case.
During a visit to Korea, we were able to visit two of our church planting ministries. We visited Waegwon, a ministry to Camp Carroll and a small camp in the southeast part of South Korea. Camp Carroll is a 546-acre Army base in South Korea with a total population of approximately 2,700. About ¾ are American GI’s and civilians.
Armed Forces Baptist Church has been having an outreach for the past fifteen years. Currently led by Pastor Drew (Lela) Mahaney, they are faithful to their mission field. Please pray for this very important work and the sweet missionary family leading them.
The next ministry we visited was Haven Baptist Church outside the Kunsan Air Force Base. Kunsan K-8 Air Base is a United States Air Force base located at Gunsan Airport, on the west coast of the South Korean peninsula bordered by the Yellow Sea. It is located in the town of Gunsan, about 110 miles south of Seoul. This base is the home to 2,800 Air Force personnel. As you can imagine, the base has a strategic advantage to quickly defend the peninsula.
For almost fifty years, Haven Baptist Church has had a solid outreach to base. That continues today with Pastor Jim (Suk) Taylor leading the ministry.
Their outreach includes a day school, college and specific men and ladies ministries with the feel of a serviceman center. The day school is always gathering applications for teachers from local churches with an accredited degree (Korean law). Feel free to contact Pastor Taylor at pastor.haven@me.com if interested.
The Wounded Spirits facet of our ministry was in the forefront throughout the last couple months, running three PTSD conferences. For the first time, we had specific breakouts for the ladies and the gentlemen, which allowed for wide-open discussions and freer dialogue. The Lord greatly used these conferences, and many claimed a better understanding of the their PTSD.
Last month, the Lord allowed us to distribute Bibles on three bases. It is such a blessing to give our heroes the Words of Life.
It was awesome to work with several other missionaries in the last three months. We enjoyed time with Rick & Suzi Mahaney and Dan and Kelly Kursinky. We were encouraged by their faithfulness and hard work.
The Martinez Family have started a new ministry in southeastern South Carolina. The Lord is already blessing with multiple outreaches. Please pray as they serve in the Lord’s perfect will.
Thank you again for your faithful prayers and support for our missionaries.
On behalf of our missionary family,
Doug Carragher, General Director
